I beg leave to acknowledge with thanks the receipt of the correspondence with the Indian Government respecting the proposed alteration of practice at Hong Kong with regard to the measurement of temperature and humidity. The Director-General of Observatories sets out the situation quite clearly, and in my opinion it is desirable that the practice at Hong Kong should agree with that in India as to the method of recording temperatures with the dry and wet bulb intended for official publications. At the same time it is always desirable that an observatory should follow out its ideas to logical conclusione, and if Mr. Claxton is disposed to make a comparison between the established practice and the sling method,
